Craptastic Tuesday...

to say the least. Just so you know, I am about to whine.
Sunday on our way to church we go a flat tire. I called AAA. That was at 10:35. Church starts at 11:00. I had high hopes of making it to church.  Maybe a little late but we'd get there.(little did I know)  At about 10:45 my friend/ex cousin in law stopped on her way to church to see if we needed help. I told her I called AAA and sent her on her way. Right after she left a state trooper drove by(not sped just drove) and did not even look my way. Did I mention I had my caution lights blinking? 11:00 - Mr. Random Guy pull over and asks if I had a phone(yes), did I call someone(yes) and was I gonna be okay(yes). I told him I called AAA and sent him on his way. Not long after that I saw police car#1. Not speeding by just driving by and no stopping. For awhile (10 minutes), my two little ladies kept busy playing with their Etch-A-Sketch and Doodle Pad but soon it was all whining and this
Yeah, the kid version of the stink eye. No fun at all. I just knew I would pull out all my hair by the time AAA arrived. If they arrived. While I waited and contmplated running out into traffic to get away from a grouchy 7yr old and a crying toddler  I saw police car #2 and #3. Not one upstanding officer of the law stopped to help me. Mind you, they may have been on their way to some emergency but who could tell- they had no lights or sirens on. My tax dollars hard at work. AAA did get there at about noon. They say they couldn't find my location. Okay. Tire got fixed and they told me I needed an alignment. Thanks!

Monday was pretty all right till I took Princessa to girl scouts. I am sure everbody knows that its cookie time. And cookie time means booth sales. So, this was the booth sales meeting. I watched the girls do good booth bad booth(funny) and heard all the previous years horror stories(really?!) Then came the rules. All the rules were pretty common sense till they said no younger children allowed and looked at me and Stinkerbell(hello I am a single mom with not so reliable babysitting) then they said dress appropriately i.e. no short short and low cut tops and looked at me(1. it's winter-it's Florida but it's WINTER 2. I am a fluffy girl-short shorts are NOT in my vocabulary 3. you have never seen me in anything but business clothes so how do you figure I would even wear that get up) Now I could just be paranoid and think everybody is just singling me out but the next rule was directed directly to me-anjolcake you cant have loud music or food at the booth.  Just drinks that you must keep under the table in a box.Huh?! Why would I have loud music at a booth? And just cause I am fluffy does n't mean I have to have snacks constantly.(Okay I did tell the other mom I'd bring the sancks but I did NOT say anything about music) By the time I left I wanted nothing to do with booth sales, cookies or Girl Scouts. Arghhhhhhhhhh!

Today was the worst day  of all three. Stinkerbell's plan was changed back to re-uninfication. Looks like Stink is going back to her bio mom. My heart broke in a thousand pieces when I heard the news. I love Stinkerbell. I just closed the door to my office and cried.  I don't want to go through this anymore. I don't want to watch Stink melt down every week when she has to have a visit with her mother. I can't deal with her biting herself, pulling her hair and banging her head out of frustration and confusion. I don't know what to do. My heart is so heavy. And Princessa is going to be so sad to lose her "baby sister". If I didn't know how Stinks bio mom was I wouldn't feel so bad but I don;t think Stink will be safe or taken care of.
My heart aches thinking about this. And nobody really gets it
So the last 3 days have been real winners with today being the best (not). I am praying for a better tomorrow and for the strength to keep pushing on. Please pray for me.

Mechanics don red dresses for women's heart health

The mechanics at the Bradenton Jiffy Lube wore red dresses for a good cause.

MANATEE COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Friday was a normal day for the mechanics at the Bradenton Jiffy Lube, except for one small difference: they all wore red dresses instead of their uniforms.
General manager Rick Anderson said the staff of the Jiffy Lube decided to add some fun to their fundraising for the American Heart Association.
"Today is Wear Red Day, so to participate in Red Day we decided to wear red dresses to symbolize women," he said.
The mechanics hoped the unusual attire would catch the attention of their customers and encourage them to buy a coupon book for $3. The coupon books are good for $100 in savings.
Julie Johnston, the regional director for the American Heart Association for Sarasota and Manatee Counties, said she hopes the stunt raises awareness about women's heart health.
"Almost half a million women in the U.S. die each year of heart and disease cardiovascular disease," she said. "One in three women will die of cardiovascular disease."
The mechanics at Jiffy Lube hope they can help accomplish that, even if it means a little bit of embarrassment.
"No no no... you won't catch me dead in a red dress on an average day," joked technician Ben Magda.

The blog white sugar brown sugar had me at the feet. The sandy feet. The picture of the author's sandy foot, her husband's sandy foot and the most precious  baby foot made me not care what the blog was about- I just had to know who this family of feet belonged to. I happily discovered the feet belonged to a new adoptive family who are just starting to navigate the sweet yet sticky world of a trans-racial family.
Okay, so you know that blogs about trans-racial families are my thing but white sugar brown sugar has grabbed a special place in my heart.
What I love about this blog is the realness; the authenticity. You get the joys of new motherhood along with writing that delves into the controversies and questions that trans-racial parenting brings to the table. Things we all are thinking or have thought in light of parentswho have chosen to raise children who are a different race than themselves.  Very thoughtful; very smart but don't take my word for it -head over to white sugar brown sugar and check it out for yourself. Tell em' anjolcake sent ya!

Black History Month: Black Voices

We’ve gone through the names—Negro, African American, African, Black. For me that’s an indication of a people still trying to find their identity. Who determines what is black?     —Spike Lee (1957–), filmmaker

Did You Know...

that February is also National Children's Dental Health Month. I didn't realize that either till Princessa came home with a new toothbrush and toothpaste that she got from a dental presentation at school. Oral health is so important to the overall health and self esteem of children and good oral health habits should be taught early.

Unfortunately, Princessa has had a hard road when it comes to her teeth. When she came to live with me she had no top front teeth and had to have about six more teeth pulled. She also had a gigantic abcess on her gums. She was in pain and had an ongoing fever because of all the infection that she carried in her mouth. She didn't like to laugh or smile in a way that showed any of her rotten teeth. Dentist visits were sad and traumatic. But with the help of a good dentist Princessa now has a great smile that she loves to share.
